Hotel Major - Krakow

Stayed at Hotel Major (pronounced ‘ma-yor’ in Polish) for a long weekend, primarily to go to the annual Selector Festival in Krakow. The hotel isn’t in the most convenient of locations, but that is not a problem – if you use the train link from the airport, you will find plenty taxis waiting outside .The average cost from the city centre to the hotel is around 35pl (Polish Zloty) – equating to around only £6.50. For day-to-day travel, there is a very handy bus stop located just outside the hotel. This costs a mere 2.50pl (50p) for each journey – you can buy tickets at any news stand, or on the bus. Bus number 130 will take you directly to the centre in about 15-20 minutes. The hotel itself is fairly modern and very clean. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful, and will do their best to understand English or assist with Polish pronunciation! The rooms are spacious though slightly minimal (no safe, fridge/mini-bar or no tea/coffee facilities for example). There is not much in the way of local facilities, though a local ‘Jubilat’ store will provide most of the necessities. Poland itself is a great city and highly recommended for a weekend break – plenty to see and do in and around the city, and a number of excellent tours available (Salt Mines, Auschwitz, Jewish District etc). If you’re looking for a no-frills accommodation, then I would definitely consider Hotel Major. If you’re after something a bit more luxurious or closer to the city, then maybe this isn’t for you.

Room was spotless and building in new condition. Bar was only open at convenience of staff- was closed 30 mins early (2130 hours) and it took the manager to get them to make a 3 EUR cup of hot chocolate. Reception called the wrong taxi (50% more expensive than company I asked for by name). Location is far from the center, construction site next door is noisy.

THE HOTEL WAS DESCRIBED AS BEING 0.53 MILES FROM THE CENTRE YET IT WAS A 25 MIN BUS RIDE I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THAT

The hotel is new and very clean. As a tourist it is far away from the city center and the cost of cab rides to get back at night evens out the savings at the hotel.The hotel per se is very good however

litt utenfor sentrum men veldig gode bussforbindelser til og fra sentrum, behagelig servisinnstilt personal, stille og rolige omgivelser, veldig greit naar du ikke planlegger aa tilbringe mye tid paa hotellet (kan vaere litt tungvint reise frem og tilbake fra sentrum), traadloes nettverk, verdt pengene

Dette var et enkelt og greit hotell. Det stod i hotellbeskrivelsen at det skulle ligge nærmere sentrum, så det var et minus. Men det gikk buss rett utenfor, og det er billig taxi.
